War should never happen in the first place nor should men (nowadays women fight in wars too, but just referring to WWII) with families have fought. Many families were devastated by the loss of their loved ones and these people are the true heroes of Japan, not the brutal military officers. The leadership was corrupt, just like Hitler was and acted in the same way he did. Japan as a nation should be aware of this and this should be taught in the school system rather than denying it ever happened. Once this, along with many other things, is done, strife between Japan, Korea and China will stop. None of this is said in bitterness. I live here and plan to live here for a number of years. Humiliating and forcing a young American English teacher to read that aloud, who had nothing to do with the decisions about the A-bomb and was born 3 generations after is not the way to teach history. December 28, 2015 at 9:58am Emmanuel Chanel Emmanuel Chanel I've said this although you don't understand. >I don't say that you lie. And I agree that your boss should be aware of that problem if you testify honestly. 1. First of all, we don't need an excuse for showing Mother's Lullaby in New Horizon. You don't argue your atomic bombings. So that content is never a false accusation if it were really shown for accusation against USA. Seeing Tokyo Shoseki's PDFs, it looks rather that they put that literature for a peace education piece. 2. Current New Crown shows a literature about Hiroshima, too, according to their PDF web release. http://tb.sanseido-publ.co.jp/.../24N.../pdf/24_newcrown.pdf But the PDF web releases of New Sunshine of Kairyudo Shuppan(開隆堂出版) doesn't refer Hiroshima. e.g. http://www.kairyudo.co.jp/.../02-chu/eigo/h24/h24-naiyou.pdf https://www.kairyudo.co.jp/.../02_chu/eigo/h28/h28_annai.pdf They are top 3 junior high school English textbooks. 1st is New Horizon of Tokyo Shoseki with 33.8%, 2nd is New Sunshine of Kairyudo with 24.8%, and 3rd is New Crown of Sanseido with 24.2%. > 文部科学省は30日、2016年度に全国の中学校で使用する教科書の発行者別のシェアを発表した。英語では三省堂が15年度を0.3ポイント下回る24.2%で3位となった。1位は東京書籍で33.8%、2位は開隆堂で24.8%だった。 http://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXLASDG30H7Z_Q5A031C1CR8000/ First of all, our Ministry of Education, Science and Culture didn't or do order the publishers to include the text about the atomic bombing or peace education itself on the English textbooks. http://www.mext.go.jp/a_menu/shotou/cs/1320086.htm 3. >It looks like from your your blog that you were never in a public junior high school English classroom! First of all, how I could point that New Horizon is an English textbook you think? I'm a Japanese man who went to Japanese schools. Did you see About of my blog? 4. You testify about our history education. So I proved that it's incompetent as an expert witness. How many times did you read Mother's Lullaby aloud? You said "It was only 3 days after the 9/11 attacks.". Only once then? If so, your bad experience about it would be rather specific on your school or so than our usual English classrooms with ALTs. 1 · December 30, 2015 at 2:35am Nancy Kolde Nancy Kolde When studying a foreign language it is always better to use literature and music from the countries where that language is spoken, so students can learn about the culture. No mention of the fact, for-example, that today also marks another rather historical moment in the country’s post war history - for on this day in 1948 former Prime Minister Tōjō Hideki, one of the key architects of Japan’s aggression during World War II, was executed by hanging after being found guilty for Imperial Japanese war crimes by the International Military Tribunal for the Far East on November 12, 1948. In his final statements, Tojo apologised for the atrocities committed by the Japanese military and urged the American military to show compassion toward the Japanese people, who had suffered devastating air attacks and the two atomic bombings. Many historians have since criticised the work done by General Douglas MacArthur and his staff to exonerate Emperor Hirohito and all members of the imperial family from criminal prosecutions.
